As the Head of Opportunistic Credit, Chad is responsible for portfolio management and leads the firm’s private capital solutions efforts for borrowers with limited access to traditional capital markets.
Mr. Valerio also oversees the firm’s public credit activities for companies that are facing stress or market dislocation, including opportunistic investments in these instruments as well as workout of pre-existing positions.
Additionally, as a member of the Direct Lending Investment Committee, Chad shares responsibility for sourcing, evaluating, and managing the firm’s Direct Lending positions to core middle market borrowers.
Chad has over 20 years of experience in the credit markets, with a focus on opportunistic credit, special situations, and distressed debt investing. Prior to joining Onex Credit, he was a Portfolio Manager and Managing Director at Oak Hill Advisors, where he focused on the firm’s stressed and distressed investments across public and private markets. Prior to joining Oak Hill, Chad was a Portfolio Manager in the Distressed and Special Situations group at BlueMountain Capital Management.
Prior to BlueMountain, Chad spent 11 years at Deutsche Bank, with roles as the Head of Trading for the US Distressed Products Group and previously as a senior desk research analyst.
He has participated in numerous restructurings, has been a leading member of multiple creditor groups, and has served as a director on both public and private company boards.
Chad earned a BS BA in Finance and Accounting (magna cum laude) from Georgetown University.
